Over the past few years as the diet craze has hit a new high, there have been many diets, such as Atkins, that turn out to be a fad and something that doesn’t really work. There are a few diets, however, that have been proven that actually help people lose weight. Now, as we talk about “diets” I have to be clear about something, a diet in the original sense does not apply in this article. Sure you can eat less and count your calories and fat intake, but in the end a diet will not be effective until you change your lifestyle, there was a reason you got fat in the first place. Thus, as we discuss a few of the diets that have actually worked you must keep in mind that these diets are meant as a lifestyle change, it’s more than just what you eat, it’s how you take care of yourself.
The first diet that now has avid patrons using it as a day to day routine is the Body for Life diet. The Body for Life diet proclaims that in the last ten years over 2 million people have transformed their bodies and lives on their program, and having seen it work first hand, I actually believe them. The Body for Life program gives you a full recipe book, workout plan and journal to help you stay on track. Their food is everyday recipes altered to reflect healthy and fruitful ingredients that are high in fiber and protein. As I said, with this diet you are doing more than eating right, you are changing your lifestyle so you workout more and learn how to take care of yourself. Not only that but you are eating regular food that tastes great.
The next diet is one that has been proven by scientists to be one of the healthiest on the planet. This diet is the Mediterranean Diet. The Mediterranean Diet was not one that was made up in some lab, it is an actually diet eaten by those in at least 16 countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. This diet includes a high consumption of fruits, vegetables, breads, potatoes, nuts and seeds. Olive oil is used in almost everything. Dairy products, fish and poultry are consumed in low to moderate amounts, and little red meat is eaten. Eggs are consumed one to four times a week. And wine is consumed in low to moderate amounts as well. The American Heart Association recently wrote an article stating the facts about this diet and has come to the conclusion that this diet, while high in fat, the fat is of the mono-saturated type which is healthier than saturated. They also say though, that physical activity and extended social support systems play a huge part in this diet and eating the food alone will not suffice.
The last diet that has been shown to work in the past years is the Nutrisystem diet. Nutrisystem gets you on the right track in three easy steps, first you choose your food and you plan, then you get delicious food delivered to your door and finally you eat healthy and keep track of your weight loss. A prepackaged meal plan, Nutrisystem, consists of low-glycemic carbohydrates, protein and fiber. Clients eat five times per day, a combination of Nutrisystem food, along with fruits and vegetables. Nutrisystem does say though that while your food intake will improve exercise is still a must to help you attain your full weight loss.
While these diets represent only a portion of diets that have been proven to work, the main key is that all diets are about eating right, exercising regularly and indulging in a healthy lifestyle. Without these three things weight loss and maintain a healthy figure and body is impossible. So if your really looking to get fit make sure your doing it right, which means no crash diets.
